Frequently Asked Questions - Advocacy

Every family that comes to the Children’s Legacy Center (CLC) will have a Family Advocate as part of their multi-disciplinary team (MDT).  Family Advocates walk alongside the family throughout the investigative process beginning from the first day a family walks into the CLC.  A Family Advocate provides hope and support with respect, dignity, kindness, empathy, and compassion for every child and family.

The day of the Forensic Interview and/or Forensic Medical Exam, the family will be welcomed and greeted by our receptionist and given a tour of the Children’s Legacy Center.  During the Forensic Interview, the CLC Family Advocate, and the Victim’s Advocate from the Shasta County CVAC office will meet with the family to provide an assessment to help determine what needs and resources would be of support for the family and child, and discuss Victim’s Compensation and the legal and court processes.

At the Children’s Legacy Center, we see the value in need for supporting children and families during the entire investigative process.  Family advocates provide ongoing comprehensive case management for caregivers and families.  An assessment will be gathered to identify needs and concerns to assist with coordination with resources; housing, food, transportation, educational resources, parenting resources, community, and therapeutic referrals.  Family Advocates through the case management process, will connect with caregivers on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly follow up by phone, in the office or home visit to review goals and current needs.
