The Children’s Legacy Center is Shasta County’s customized approach to a Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), an evidence-based model that was created in 1985 in Huntsville, Alabama. This model is currently deployed in 881 communities across the United States with substantial success. A foundational pillar of CACs is the establishment of a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), which is composed of local professionals from specific, distinct disciplines that collaborate from the point of report and throughout a child and family’s involvement with the CAC. All MDT members contribute their knowledge, experience, and expertise for a coordinated, comprehensive, compassionate, and professional response.
By incorporating this model in Shasta County, we strive to reach and provide care to all children and youth who need it in our community and the surrounding areas. The groundbreaking mindset of unity and collaboration among government and non-government agencies that originated in Huntsville has paved the way for countless others to follow in their footsteps. Children’s Advocacy Centers have proven time and time again that they are cost effective, increase the rate of prosecutions, and have a positive impact on the long-term success of the child.
The children are at the center of all we do and why the CLC exists. They are our legacy and they are our future— the handprints in the cement of our society. The foundation of our team is collaboration, integrity, respect, and excellence, and our centers are a place of safety, peace, and hope for all who enter its doors. We believe that with a cornerstone based on community, the continued focus of our team, and the support of loving caregivers, every child has a chance to become anything they desire.
